When I first heard of Raw Organic Yacon Root Syrup I was intrigued by it. I had never seen it much less heard of it. So when I did some reading on it I was really intrigued and wanted to try it. After all if there is something out there that is natural and can assist with weight management I'm willing to try it.
When I first opened the bottle I smelled it and thought it had a rich smell to it. The syrup itself is really thick. Rather than mixing it in a drink or food I decided to take it from the spoon. Boy, was that a shock. It not only had a rich smell to it but it also had a rich taste and one that is very noticeable (at least I thought so). I'm glad I didn't mix it with tea or anything as I'm afraid it would have changed the taste. While taking the Yacon Syrup I noticed that it did make my tummy cramp some but not for a long time (this could be due to the fact that I took it straight from the spoon rather than mix it with something). It does do what it says from what i can tell. With that being said I did cut it down from 3 times a day to 2 times a day and I took it on an empty stomach which seemed to help with the cramping. I know the longer I use it the more noticeable it's effects will be.

What is Yacon Syrup:
Yacon syrup is a natural sugar substitute grown in the foothills of the Andean Mountain region of South America, and was first used by the ancient Incas. It is recommended for those suffering from or at risk of developing diabetes. Others use it for ethical and health reasons. Yacon syrup is derived from the roots of the yacon plant, which is very similar to common sunflower plants. The enzyme that makes yacon root sweet is Fructooligosaccharide (FOS); 50 percent of yacon plant roots are made up of FOS.
According to a February 2008 study published in "Clinical Nutrition Magazine," it has been shown that yacon syrup is beneficial to the body when used moderately. It contains bacteria, similar to that found in yogurt, and helps to regulate the digestive system. In Brazil, it is commonly used along with traditional methods to fight diabetes. Yacon syrup also does not pose any of the potential health risks that some artificial sweeteners do. Read more on Yacon Syrup HERE.
